I am a fourth year medical student studying at the University of Exeter. My impact is based on diversifying the medical curriculum, public involvement in medicine and ensuring that the conversation surrounding representation and diversity in medicine continues to be had and impactful results are witnessed. Diversity is at the heart of this website with the use of inclusive language, questions to help the public and detailed disease profiles to contribute to medical students’ learning.

Team Lead for Family Medicine
I am a medical student with a passion for paediatrics. I want to promote and empower children to implement healthy behaviours early on. I have a keen interest in public health and community paediatrics as well as early mental development and nutrition. I hope to increase awareness of different conditions by breaking down barriers so that everyone has access to up to date and inclusive resources. I hope to achieve this by creating a diverse data base of paediatric conditions and creating resources that are specifically designed for children.

As someone who migrated to the UK at a young age, I am committed to inspiring and promoting a diverse medical curriculum that prioritises womens care and inclusivity.

I’m Kacie and I’m a 4th year student at Exeter University. I love hiking, running and listening to an abundant amount of musicals in my spare time. My main reason for joining the SFA was the opportunity to learn more about how different treatments affect different people, especially in specialties such as surgery and anaesthetics where wrong doses and decisions can have such an immediate and life threatening effect. Ensuring the best treatment for all patients, no matter their background or ethnicity, is imperative and I am excited to be apart of something that aims to educate others in this subject.

As a mature student, I've had the opportunity to work across Hospitals in various specialities. As a mixed-race medical student, advancing diversity in medicine is a mission close to my heart. Now in my fourth year following an intercalated master's degree, my primary interests lie in dermatology, research, and medical education. "Skin For All" provides an exciting opportunity to combine these affinities, with the goal of enhancing cultural competency in future doctors whilst also addressing current biases in healthcare. Having recently become an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, I am eager to use my teaching experience to promote health equity as ultimately, increasing representation of different ethnicities will lead to improved patient outcomes.

I’m a fourth-year medical student working with the University of Exeter. After spending two years studying down in Cornwall, I am excited to be back in Exeter to continue improving representation within medicine. Hailing from Wales, I have helped widen access to medicine with Truro WAMS and In2MedSchool where we used a research-orientated approach to identify barriers affecting prospective medical applicants from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. From here, we looked to organise events and mentorship programmes to support, encourage and empower these students throughout their application process. My name is Naomi Altonji and I am a second year Biomedical Engineering student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a minor is Health and Society. I am deeply passionate about the intersection of biotechnology and public health, but most of all creating a more accessible and equitable healthcare system in America, for people of all racial, cultural and gender identities. I am very excited to be a part of this cohort and meet fellow like minded individuals who also want to turn our passion into visible change on an international level! I am a second-year medical student at King’s College London, and have long been passionate about challenging inequalities within our healthcare system. Having spent time working with NHS Blood & Transplant with the University of Brighton, we worked on initiatives aiming to improve the availability of the Ro blood group by improving access to BAME donors. This experience highlighted the importance of representation within the medical curriculum and how as a future healthcare professional, we should strive to challenge inequalities and aim to ensure that healthcare is as representative and accessible as possible.

Hi everyone! I am Asma a Stage 2 Year 2 GEM Student at Kings. I am excited to start my journey in Medicine as a brand ambassador for skin for all as I am passionate about advocating for better healthcare and better understanding of how disease shows up in different ethnicities and skin tones. There is still a lot of work to be done in pushing research and it’s findings into healthcare settings to spread the knowledge but I am ready to be part of this very much needed movement while I balance being a mum of 4 (and a cute little kitten)
